Lam Tim-wai is currently Principal Violist of Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong.
LAM Tim-wai
As an active orchestral player, Lam Tim-wai has been the Principal Violist of Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong since 2008. He participated in numerous orchestral performances by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (Mahler Symphony No.5, John Adams’ Shaker Loops and Beethoven Symphony No.5), the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra, Hong Kong Polytechnic University Orchestra, Hong Kong City University Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
Lam received his Diploma of Music and Bachelor of Music (Honors) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His teachers include Cui Hong Wei David, Jeremy David Williams and Teng Wai William. He is currently completing his Master of Music programme at the Academy.
Lam has a special interest in period instruments. He participated in Nobuko Imai’s Viola Masterclass in Asari, Hokkaido in Japan in January 2008 and 2009 and performed the Bach Cello Suite No.5 and Brandenburg Concerto No.6 in Otaru. Under the inspiration and coaching of Nobuko Imai, Lam began to use the Baroque bow on both period and modern instruments.
Lam studied Baroque music in the Academy’s Early Music Ensemble, coached by Benedict Cruft and Shane Leveque. He has collaborated with important Baroque musicians including Trevor Pinnock, Jeanne Lamon, etc. He is also an active member and soloist of the Inspiration of Baroque Ensemble from 2001 to now.
