News on display : Percussionist joined Youtube Orchestra


Rainice Lai admitted to Youtube Orchestra.

Congratulations to Principal Percussionist, Ms Rainice Lai, who was selected to participate in Youtube Symphony Orchestra at New York's Carnegie Hall (one of the most prestigious venues in the world) on 15 April 2009 under Grammy Award-winning conductor and music director for the San Francisco Symphony Michael Tilson Thomas. She is the only musician from Hong Kong to participate in the orchestra.

Youtube Symphony Orchestra is an international orchestra of 96 musicians who auditioned on the YouTube video-sharing Web site. The orchestra was assembled after more than 3,000 auditions were submitted in December and January. Judges from some of the world's top orchestras whittled the number to 200 before the winners were chosen by viewers of YouTube.

The project is a collaboration between YouTube, the London Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, Grammy Award -winning conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, Academy Award -winning and Olympics composer Tan Dun, world-renowned pianist Lang Lang, and many other classical musicians and leading institutions.
